Obituary of Dorothy E. Turner

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dorothy E. Turner was born on February 26, 1923 in East Riverton (Cinnaminson) New Jersey.  She was the daughter of the late Robert and Gertrude Banks.  Dot or Dotty, as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, passed away peacefully at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware on August 15, 2019.  She was preceded in death by her Husband, George O. Turner, 2 Sons, Donald Banks and Craig Turner, Sr., 2 infant Grandchildren, and her 4 Brothers and 3 Sisters.

Dorothy was educated in the Westfield Public School System "School #4 The Colored School" (now Cinnaminson Township Schools).

While her husband was serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII, Dorothy was employed at the U.S. Naval Shipyard in Philadelphia, PA.  Later in life, she worked for Kei Keiffers in Riverside, NJ.  After leaving the workforce, Dorothy devoted her time to her family.  She was a Cinnaminson PAL Softball Coach, a Boy Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout Troop Leader.

Dorothy accepted the Lord as her personal savior at an early age.  She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church for over 50 years and served as Chaplain of the Missionary Ministry.  She also made sure her children knew the Lord by sending them to Sunday School every week. In May of 2013, she was honored for her dedication and longevity by being elevated to the title of "Mother of the Church".

Dorothy leaves to treasure her life, 4 Children: Robert Allen (Charlene), Cynthia Turner, Wayne Turner (Sandra) and Lisa Riley, 14 Grandchildren, 18 Great-Grandchildren, devoted Niece Missy Sheppard, cherished friends: Mother/Deaconess Viola Pritchett, Deaconess Mary Smith,  Marie Alexander and Mallie Washington and many Loving Family and Friends.
