Obituary of Marie Estelle McGlotten

Please share a memory of Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
McGlotten Marie Estelle, daughter of the late Cornelius and Mamie Beverly, passed to be with her beloved Savior on Tuesday, May 31, 2011. She was born on December 29, 1918 in rural Virginia and she transitioned at the age of 92 and was the last survivor of her five sisters and brothers. She married Everett Maurice McGlotten Sr. on February 2, 1935 and gave him four loving children. Upon her husband's untimely death, she raised her children alone with the aid of God. She proudly kept her family intact and worked as a dress presser for many years. She was proud that her peers repeatedly elected her to represent them as their union representative in the garment industry. Upon the graduation of all of her children from high school, Mrs. McGlotten pursued her love of higher education by obtaining her GED and was an honors student while obtaining two years of college,. She was a strong Christian role model and mentor to all who knew her. She leaves behind three children, Everett Jr., Lora Jean and Clifford; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her son, Arthur preceded her in death. She was quite proud that all of her children and her grandchildren valued higher education and that her three sons all served and retired from military service. Mom, grandmom, "Babe Sis" and "Ms. Click-Click", (for her love of photography) as she was variously referred to, had an unparalled zest for serving God and enjoying life. She often said, "that if God had anything better than retirement and grandchildren, he kept it to Himself." She traveled extensively to Europe, the United States and other countries. Her intellectual capacity was evidenced in her avid love of mastering difficult N.Y. Times crossword puzzles. Mom treasured her independence living alone. At an advance age which would not have been possible without the aid of her daughter, granddaughter and her beloved "Riverside Boys", especially her beloved "Sammie" (Nelson Hawkins) and Clarence R. Newton Sr. She has transitioned to a warm and deserved homecoming but her legacy of courage, integrity humor and bluntness will always continue to guide her family and those who loved her, especially her Godson, Sonny Morris and niece, Sandra McGlotten.
