Obituary of Charly-Mae Patterson

Patterson, Charly-Mae was called home by the Lord on Sunday, May 29, 2011. Her work as a dedicated servant of the Lord was complete. Charly-Mae was born on March 11, 1935 in Anderson, South Carolina to the late Willie Mae and Ernest Brownlee. Charly-Mae met and married her high school sweetheart, the late Jack Patterson Sr. This marriage was blessed with four children. Charly-Mar attended schools in Anderson, South Carolina, New York and then finally went on to graduate from Boston University. Upon graduation, she began her career as a licensed Social Worker and Family Therapist. Charly-Mae was a lover of the Lord. She attended Church at an early age and even in sickness continued to faithfully praise and worship the Lord. Charly-Mae had a beautiful spirit which was felt by all who knew her. She loved children and enjoyed working with them at the Radix Elementary School. Chharly-Mae was family oriented and upheld strong values and loved unconditionally. She enjoyed life and focused on all its goodness, always encouraging us to do the same. She was artistic, enjoyed traveling, was a mentor to many, a dedicated community servant and member of the Nationalo Coalition of 100 Black Women, Williamstown Civic Group and Ladies of the Station organizations. Charly-Mae was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend and her generosity, kind heart, warm spirit and smile were an inspiration to her family, friends and community. Her memory lives on with love, respect and affection. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Amy, Dorothy, Zadie and Sarah; brothers, Matthew and Ernest. Left to cherish loving and lasting memories are her daughter, Valerie of Paterson, NJ; three sons, Myron of Boston, MA, Jack Jr. of Chicago, IL and Bernard of Robbinsville, NJ; a daughter-in-law, Sherry L. Patterson; three granddaughters, LaToya Patterson, Diamond Reddick and Nydia Patterson; a sister-in-law, Willa Bell Patterson of Hampton, VA; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
