Obituary of Leroy Johnson
Leroy “Talley” Johnson was born December 24, 1930, in Hartsville, South Carolina. He was predeceased by his parents Moses and Louise Talley.
His early education was completed in the Hartsville Public School System. Leroy enlisted in the Army in 1951. He served in the Airborne Division.
He married Helen Boler and from this union came four children, Vernette, Stephanie, Beth and son, Leroy, Jr.
He has been called, “The Best Bricklayer in the State”. He was employed by Fisher Engineering and Deb Welding.
Leroy was an avid golf enthusiast who won many awards. He was a member of the Chip-A-Whiles Golf Club; he had the nickname, ‘Sergeant of Arms’. He was a caddy for the Riverton Country Club for over forty (40) years. He was a lifetime member of Slade-Valentine Post #336 American Legion (Burlington, NJ).
Leroy accepted Christ as his Savior, and was baptized at Saint Paul Baptist Church.
Leroy was predeceased by his son, Leroy, Jr. and two great-grandsons, Ramell Lee Hawkins and Dimonte’ Cornell Hawkins.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters Rev. Vernette Little, Min. Stephanie Dupree ; Beth Johnson Reeves; two dedicated sons-in-law Larry Dupree and John Reeves; granddaughters Morgan Reeves, Marva Lee Hawkins, Monique Hawkins; grandsons David Johnson, James Little, Mason Reeves, Marcus Reeves; special cousin Marie Alexander and adopted son Stevie B Morris; Jimmy Jennings and a host of family and friends.
