Obituary of John D. Robinson

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Deacon John D. Robinson, was born June 10, 1942 in Catawba County, North Carolina to the late Ernest and Sophia Smith Robinson, and departed this life on July 15, 2018, at home surrounded by his wife and daughters.

John attended public schools in Catawba County and graduated high school in 1960.

In 1961, John enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country. In 1967, he was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant. After serving in the Army, John served in the Army National Guard until 1990.

John accepted Christ as his personal Savior circa 1983 and became a member of Friendship Glorious United Pentecostal Church of God under the leadership of Elder Carrie Murchinson.  John became a student of the Bible and as a result became an excellent Sunday School teacher.

John had a special friend in Elder Fred Alexander and they became prayer partners, discussing the Bible and teaching each other for many years.  He enjoyed counseling and teaching,  especially with his God-daughter, Tracy Hill-Blain, and anyone else he could witness to.

Even while he was in the hospital he was always ready to teach the Word.  His answer to any situation always came from the Word of God.

John was employed at Parkway Gas Station for several years and was last employed at The Plaza Condominium Association as a security guard, taking many trips to Florida with the “snow birds” of The Plaza until he became disabled and had to leave his job.  John was a very meek and humble man who will be dearly missed.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of thirty years, Theodora (Teddie) Robinson of Mays Landing, New Jersey; two sons, Rodney Robinson of Charlotte, North Carolina and  Roderick (Mary) Robinson of Frisco, Texas; four step children, Robert Stephens of Lawton, Oklahoma, Danette Stephens of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, Nichole Stephens-Hamilton of Atlanta, Georgia and Shonda Stephens of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey; sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; eight siblings, Isaac (Darkies) Robinson of Pleasantville, New Jersey, Della Mae Rogers and Jennie Brice of Conover, North Carolina, Lavern Browers of Pleasantville, New Jersey, Bertha (Michael) Amosu of Atlanta, Georgia, Dorothy (Donald) Nelson, Rita (Robert) Massey and Regina (David) Badger, all of Charlotte, North Carolina, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones and friends.
