Obituary of Mildred B. Donnell

Please share a memory of Mildred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mildred Donnell, 98,  of Galloway, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home May 23, 2018,  surrounded by her loving family.  She was born Mildred Mercedes Bolden on April 25, 1920, in Seaford, Delaware to the late Dora Turner.  She lived in Atlantic City for over 60 years before moving to Galloway to share a home with her son, Bruce.

Mildred has been a devoted member of Jethro Memorial Presbyterian Church since 1954 under Reverend Wyatt Johnson’s fellowship. She was very active in the church; becoming a Deacon for a number of years and assisting with Vacation Bible School.  She continued to do whatever was necessary to help the church until her health began to fail.

Mildred worked in a dry cleaning plant on Indiana Ave for nearly 19 years. There she met her beloved husband, Jimmy.  From this union, two wonderful boys were born, Bruce and Brock (James).

Jimmy & Mildred later decided to purchase West Side Cleaners on Hummock Ave, which they operated for nearly 16 years.  After Jimmy’s death, Mildred went to work for Manhattan Cleaners. After the casinos opened, Mildred worked in the uniform shop at Bally’s as an Assistant Manager for nearly 10 years.

Family was Mildred’s #1 priority.  Besides her own boys, she helped raise her siblings and took on the noble task of raising her grandson, JB.  As the matriarch of the family, she was a true believer that family is not an important thing; It is everything.

She was predeceased by her husband, James; son “Brock” (James); brothers, James Turner, John Turner, Woolford Turner, and Edward Turner; sisters-in-law, Linda Olterzewski & Kathy McDavid-Turner; great grandchildren, Quasana Goines and Donnell Parks.

She is survived by her loving son, Bruce Donnell; sister, Dolores King; brother LuQua Turner; sister in law, Matilda Turner; grandchildren, “Tiny” Goines, Quantae Brooks, Kenya Long, Annese Parks, James “JB” Donnell and Bria Donnell; great grandchildren, Tevin Goines, Ta’mya Goines, Ty’Quan Long, Kendra Long, Semaj Donnell, Meliyah Parks; and host of loving family members and friends.

A special Thank You to the staff of Holy Redeemer Hospice Service for the compassionate care provided to Mildred and the family.
