Obituary of Arthur Self

Self Arthur Jr. was born on August 10, 1959, the son of the late Arthur and Maxine Self of West Berlin, New Jersey. Arty was was raised in East Berlin and attended Edgewood Regional High School in Tansboro, New Jersey, where he graduated in 1977. While attending Edgewood, Arty participated in many sports, but he excelled in track and won many medals. He received a scholarship to attend Pierce Junior College and graduated in 1979. Arty went on to attend Seton Hall University in North Jersey where he graduated with a degree in Marketing. Later, he moved to North Carolina where he was a salesman for a time share property. Arty returned to New Jersey in 2005 when his health began to decline. Arty was an avid chess player and loved to watch Westerns. Arty leaves to mourn, his daughter, Olivia Lee; his sister, Debra McKinsey (Howard), his brother, Eric Self; his best friends, Chandaloris Morine and Dwayne Wilson; his uncle, Willie Self (Hazel) of West Berlin; his aunts, Linda Howard (Moses) and Doris Ross, all of Delaware; his nieces, Stephanie Carter (Terrance), Erica Self and Essence Self; his nephew, Andre Carter (Tamika) and Tyrell McKinsey; his great nieces, Ciara and Shavonna; his great nephew, Faizon, and a host of other relatives and friends. Services will be held 11am Monday, November 22, 2010, at St. John's U.M. Church, 409, Fairview Avenue, West Berlin, where friends may call from 9am. Entombment in Berlin Cemetery, Berlin, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Black History Scholarship, Att. C. Culver at the church.
