Obituary of Rosa P. Ellington
Rosa P. Ellington was born on January 5, 1921 in Rhine, Georgia to William and Bessie Wood. She was the eldest girl of twelve children. The family moved to Philadelphia, PA and later relocated to East Berlin, NJ.
Rosa attended East Berlin Elementary School then she attended and graduated from Haddonfield High School. She accepted Christ at an early age in her life. She joined and was Baptized at Green Grove Baptist Church where she sang on the choir. She later met and married Dea Ellington in September 1940 and to this union they were blessed with five children: Beatrice, Elaine, Ernest, Rodney and Constance.
Rosa later attended Camden County College where she received an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. She then worked for Camden Catholic Daycare until her health began to fail. She resided with her daughter Beatrice until she decided to move to a Senior Retirement Community where she remained active in the community and attended church services. Rosa traveled often to visit with her children, grandchildren, friends and her special time was when she visited with her sister, Ida. Rosa and Ida would go shopping and talk of times past and present.
Rosa was preceded in death by her parents, ten siblings, her husband Dea Ellington; her sons Ernest and Rodney and her daughter Elaine.
Rosa leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Beatrice O. Ferrell (James) of Chesilhurst, NJ and Constance Carstaphen of Fayetteville, NC; one brother Deacon Bernard Woods (Della) of Chesilhurst; twelve grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; also, a host of nieces, nephews, friends and two special God daughters, Irene Johnson and Carolyn Saunders.
