Obituary of Helen Jean James
Helen Jean James, a.k.a. Jean, went Home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 31, 2017, after a lengthy illness. Jean was 89 years old. Jean was raised by her aunt, Sadie B. Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank L. James.
Jean was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was educated at the Bordentown Boarding School. She further continued her education at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania.
She later married Frank L. James on October 16, 1948. To this union, two children were born, Frank T. and Cheryl James.
Jean worked as a cashier at a Five and Dime store in Palmyra and continued as a Bank teller at Sears Bank in the Sears Building on Roosevelt Boulevard, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
She accepted the Lord at an early age. She became a faithful member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in Riverton, New Jersey. There she was a member of the Chancel and Voices of Praise Choirs. She also served as Pastor Aide for many years.
Jean loved to travel whether it be with family or friends. She loved her children and she treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Frank T. James (Joanne) of Willingboro, NJ; daughter, Cheryl J. Hill of Gurnee, Illinois; grandsons, Sgt. Carl J. Hill, Troy Twyne (Verna) and Rozell Lamont Howard; granddaughter, Megan Foucher (Kwame); great grandson, Kwame Jr.; great granddaughters, Milan, Soleil, Giselle; one sister-in-law, Virginia Carter of Cinnaminson and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
