Obituary of Mildred Collier
Mildred Collier was born on November 18, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA to the late James P and Marie Covington. In the 1930’s, the family moved to West Atco, New Jersey.
Mildred was affectionately known as “Yoogie”, a nickname given to her by her twin brother, “Pal” at an early age.
In 1948, Mildred met the late William E Collier Sr. and married in 1950. From this union was born two sons and four daughters.
Mildred was employed at Mrs. Paul’s Frozen Foods from 1964 to 1982. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, shopping for purses and reading her bible. She also enjoyed a good cup of hot tea any time and any season.
Mildred was a member of New St John Community Church (formerly known as New St John CME Church) since 1949. As a member, she served as President of the Senior Usher Board, President of the Stewardess Board, Steward Board, Trustee Board, Building Fund Committee, Senior Choir and President of the Pastor Aide Committee. Mildred was a relentless driving force in raising funds to construct the new edifice, situated at 260 Nelson Avenue, West Atco, NJ, where you can see the fruits of her labor. She worked selflessly with her sister Dorothy for many years trying to complete the building until her health began to fail her. Mildred was also a member of the West Atco Civic Association where she served as treasurer for many years. Her dedication to GOD, family, friends & community was her legacy.
Mildred was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William E Collier Sr.; beloved daughter, Pauline M. Collier, and beloved son, William E Collier Jr. She leaves to mourn a son, Rick Collier (Rennette), daughters Helen L Ballinger (Bruce), Christine D Mason (Carl) and Stacey L Tatum (Edward). 14 grandchildren; Sandra Jr, Alexis (Timothy), William III (Kisha), Kandice, Myles (Kenya), Aoleon, Millie, Dionne (Owen), Latoya, Celisse, Isis, Taylor, Heaven and Tommy as well as 15 great grandchildren. 1 brother, Kenneth Covington, 3 sisters, Dorothy Ellison (Gene), Alberta Covington, Augustine Dickerson, 2 sisters & law, Marie Covington and Anna Mae Covington. She will also be remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
