Obituary of Woodrow Wilson Lockhart

“Life’s work well done; life’s race well run, and now he rests.”

Woodrow Wilson Lockhart answered the final call of the Almighty God on Friday, July 14, 2017 at Shore Medical Center, in Somers Point, New Jersey.  He was born in Blacksburg, South Carolina, to the late William W. Lockhart and the late Lillian Woods Lockhart.  He joined Pine Grove Baptist Church at an early age and later moved his membership to Second Baptist Church in Atlantic City.

After graduating from Granard High School in Gaffney, South Carolina, he joined the United States Army.  After receiving his honorable discharge, he migrated to Atlantic City where he later met and married the late Bettye J. Ellerbee. 

Wilson managed two service stations until he became a member of Laborers International Union of North America Local 415, which was based in Pleasantville, New Jersey, working as a laborer until his retirement. 

Wilson was a quiet person.  He had a heart of gold and never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.  He believed in family sticking together and helping each other out.  He made sure everyone else was ok.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Bettye J. Lockhart; his parents, three sisters, and three brothers.

He leaves to cherish fond memories and will be greatly missed by two brothers, Charlie Lockhart (Eleanor) of Atlantic City, and Walter Lockhart of Shelby, North Carolina; one sister, Geraldine Young of Shelby, North Carolina; stepdaughter, Atiyah Henderson (Curt); one stepson, two stepgrandchildren, nine step great grandchildren, three step great great grandchildren, four goddaughters, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
