Dorothy Ophelia (Pickett) Houston-Hopkins (Dot) was born on June 9, 1951 in Newark New Jersey, to the late Leroy Robinson and the late Betty Jean (Pickett) Glover. She spent her formative years living in Baltimore, Maryland with her great-grandparents, the late Eddie Mae and Deacon Clarence Hill. Dot attended Dunbar High School in Baltimore and was a graduate of the class of 1969. She then went on to attend Howard University and Morgan State University. She later attended Fairleigh Dickenson University where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology/Criminal Justice. Dot left Baltimore and migrated to Newark, New Jersey in the early 70s, where she met and married the late Richard Leonard Houston, Sr. From this union were 2 children, a daughter, Nicole Lovelle Houston, and a son, the late Richard Leonard Houston, Jr. Dot enlisted in the Army Branch of the United States Military in 1976. She was an Honor Guard and worked as a Personnel Clerk. She was honorably discharged from the Army in 1978. Following her military career, she went on to work for the Pemberton Township Board of Education where she excelled in various positions, and remained employed with the Township as a Payroll Administrator until her retirement. Dot was a loving woman, who was very devoted to her family. She grew up in a religious household environment and remained passionate about her religion for her entire life. Upon migrating to Browns Mills, she became an active member of St. Marks Baptist Church in Browns Mills NJ. In order to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren, she left Browns Mills and moved to Sicklerville, NJ in 2004, and soon joined Christ Care Unit Missionary Baptist Church. It is there where she united in Holy Matrimony with Walter Hopkins on October 15, 2011. Dot went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Kennedy University Hospital in Washington Township, NJ. Dot is survived by her loving husband, Walter Hopkins, her loving daughter Nicole Houston, stepsons Maurice and Marcus Hopkins, grandchildren Briana Powell, Darale Battle, Arianna Hopkins, Jayden Hopkins, and Anaiya Hopkins. Her siblings Sandra Glover, Diana Glover-Harris, Kenneth Glover, and Dennis Glover; two sisters-in-law, Wanda Williams and Renee' Burch. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas J. Glover and Marcellus Glover. She also leaves to mourn a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
