Obituary of Gale V Ponton
Please share a memory of Gale to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Wednesday, July 13, 2016, Almighty God, in His infinite wisdom, called our beloved Gale Veronica Ponton home. Gale, daughter of the late Lexton Jones and Anna (Stockman) Jones, was born August 30, 1955, in Philadelphia, Pa.
Gale was a Christian woman who believed in and loved the Lord Jesus. She was an optimist, consistently seeking out the good in people and continuously striving for harmony.
In 1984, a childhood friendship was rekindled. April 24, 1991, she married her childhood friend, Farley K. Ponton.
Gale received her formal education at St. Gregory’s School, Magnolia, N.J. and Haddon Heights High School, Haddon Heights, N.J. She possessed a desire to pursue higher education, even though college for African American women was not recommended and very unpopular at the time.
It would be the opportunities that Civil Rights promulgated that inspired Gale to strive for her personal-best. Influenced by the contagious excitement for equality and self-expression during the 60’s and 70’s era, she enrolled at Livingstone College. Later she attended Rutgers University and pledged to the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority (AKA). She supported her academic vision working as a residentialcounselorandabankclerk. Galelaterattendedthe Harris School of Business where she graduated.
She was always autonomous. As a teenager, Gale worked for the teen fashion board as a model at the J.C. Penney's department store where she established a sense of real Independence and responsibility. Later she was employed as an executive secretary and office manager. However, her true passion wasn’t realized until she was bitten by the technology bug; it would be there that Gale would find her true niche, flourishing as a computer trainer in Atlantic City, N. J. In addition, Gale was a certified substitute teacher in Camden County and Notary Public in state of NJ. In her spare time, she was a member of National Hook-Up of Black Women.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Farley K. Ponton, Sr., daughter, Lauren Oliver, (Darius) son, Farley K. Ponton, Jr., Step-daughter, Dana Leisey, (Ryan), 7 grandchildren, mother, Anna Jones, sisters, Desiree Hopson and Angela Graham, and a host of Relatives and Friends. Preceding her in death, father, Lexton Jones.
