Please share a memory of Daryl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Daryl Johnson, age 62, of Pleasantville, New Jersey, departed this life in the early morning of April 15, 2016 at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center.
Daryl , (also known as John Wayne), was born in Atlantic City to Bertina Boston and Howard Johnson on March 5, 1954. He was educated in the Atlantic City Public School System and graduated with the Class of 1972.
Daryl worked for over 30 years at Beacon Cycling and Fitness in Northfield, New Jersey as a Bike Mechanic. He got to work at doing something that he loved.
Daryl was an avid bicyclist. He rode and raced bikes for over 30 years. He rode competitively and won numerous medals. He would,as time allowed, ride his bike from Philadelphia to Atlantic City in one day. A short ride for him was 25 miles and he loved it. He would also build bikes from spare parts and would leave them in front of the house for the neighborhood kids.
Daryl was also musically talented. He played the violin, bass guitar and keyboards. During his high school years, he was the first chair violinist in the orchestra. In addition, he and his friends had a band and they played at numerous events.
Daryl was very savvy, building computers from scratch. He gladly offered any knowledge he had to anyone who asked. In addition he built and operated several different types of remote control devices. His most recent one was his drone.
Other activities Daryl enjoyed included bowling and getting his skate on in Franklinville. He was a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan and a Ham Radio operator (NOT CB). His call sign was KE2PD. You would see it on his license plate along with that really long antenna on top of his car. He was a Mister Fix-It and could fix or build just about anything.
Daryl was predeceased by: his parents, Bertina Boston and Howard Johnson; his stepfather, Kent Boston; and his sassy granny, Dolores Myers.
Daryl is survived by: his wife, Pearl; daughter, Tiffany Crymes;son, Daryl Johnson; stepson, Kendrin Dyitt; two granddaughters, Deanna and Selina Ruiz; two step grandsons, Psalm and Elisha Dyitt; siblings, Darlene Johnson, Lamont Johnson, Cheryl Ann Sawyer, Mark Johnson, Patricia Summers, Steven Johnson, Leah Marshall (Craig), and Stacy Johnson; his family-in-law, Minister Miriam Spellman, Tee Lewis, Walter Dyitt, Joyce Dyitt and Deacon John Dyitt (Kikki); his longtime friend, George Ferebee; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
