Roosevelt L. Townsend was born on March 28, 1929 in Fork, South Dakota to Emory and Rollie Townsend. He departed this life on Friday, may 21, 2010. He was a resident of Atco since 1972, relocating from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a thirty year retired veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He was a member of the 167th Military Police Co. and the Special Forces. Roosevelt leaves to cherish fond memories; his wife, Marian E. Townsend of Atco; four sons, Roy Lee Townsend of Va, Jerry Townsend and Thomas Townsend, both of Philadelphia and Darnell Townsend of Hamonton, NJ; step son, Gerald Carter of Philadelphis; five daughters, Ann Rice of New York, Terri Townsend of Philadelphia, Alberta Nitz of CT, Nadine Townsend and Theresa Townsend, both of Philadelphia, Pa; two brothers, Levoid Townsend of Lumberton, South Carolina and Jilbert Townsend of Philadelphia; two sisters, Genora Richardson of Hackensack and Ruth Betha of Lumberton North Carolina; also several grandchildren, great grandchildren other family members and friends.
