Obituary of Mary Alice Hooper

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Alice Williams Hooper, the youngest of 9 children of William H. and Helen Jackson Williams, was born September 21, 1921 in the East Riverton section of Cinnaminson, NJ. Her parents and all eight siblings preceded her in death. She received her early education in the Cinnaminson Township School District and graduated Palmyra High School, Palmyra, NJ in the early 1940's. Mary Alice met and was united in holy matrimony with Mark Reed. From this union, three children were born; Phyllis Elaine, Sandra Lenore, and Michael William. Mark, Phyllis, Sandra and Michael all preceded her in death. Mary Alice was employed at Fort Dix Army Base and retired after many years of service. Mary Alice joined Saint Paul Baptist Church, Cinnaminson, New Jersey at an early age and was the oldest member of the church. On June 23, 2013 the title of Mother of the Church was bestowed on her. In the 1970's Mary Alice was united in holy matrimony to Joseph Hooper, a deacon at Macedonia Baptist Church, Beverly, New Jersey. Deacon Joseph and Mary Alice remained members at their individual churches but worshipped together at both churches over the years. Even after the passing of Deacon Hooper, Mary Alice continued to worship at Saint Paul Baptist Church and Macedonia Baptist Church. Mary Alice was a member of the Elks in 1970's and 1980's serving on many committees. During her early years, she also sang professionally. Mother Hooper was a very quiet and soft spoken lady but demanded respect from all who came in contact with her by the way she carried herself. She was always dressed in perfect taste; never without matching hat, purse and gloves. She would always greet you with a smile and a kind word whether it was to compliment you or to give advice. Even in the late years, if you listened carefully, she was still complimenting and advising. Mary Alice leaves to cherish her memories, a host of nephews, nieces, extended family members and friends.
