Obituary of James Adams, Sr.
Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James Adams, Sr.
age 80 of Delair, New Jersey, beloved husband and best friend of the late Jacqueline R. (Miller) Adams, for 45 years, passed away surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for and loved on Friday, November 8, 2013.
He was predeceased by his parents; his twelve sisters and brothers; his in-laws (Gerald and Octavia Collins), and two brothers-in-law, (Gerald and Gary Collins).
James was born in Franklinville, New Jersey. His family later moved to Cinnaminson, New Jersey where he lived until entering the United States Marine Corps. Upon being Honorably Discharged from the Marine Corps., James would marry his best friend and love of his life, Jacqueline, on April 7, 1956. Jim went to school to become a plumber and later a Master Plumber. Jim and his father-in-law started their own plumbing and heating business. "Big Jim", as he was so affectionately know, retired and quickly began caring for his beloved wife and best friend, Jacqueline for several years. Upon her death, Big Jim continued his duties as a member of First Baptist Church of Delair, serving as an Usher and Trustee, a member of the male choir as well as helping to care for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren on a daily basis.
In the summer of 2008, Big Jim was hit with what many would consider devastating news. He would have to go on dialysis three times a week for the rest of his life. But even with this news, he continued as an active father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He never let his illness get him down. It became apparent that his battle was becoming a struggle, but he never let it interfere with his faith and strength in God. His strong belief in God kept him with a smirk on his face. But he always said, "when it's my time, daughter, it's my time and when the Lord takes me I'll go in peace".
"Daddy", "Dad", "Pop", "Poppy", "Big Jim", "Unc" and "Uncle Jim", were just a few affectionate terms he will forever be remembered by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildre. We his family know that God is merciful to the righteous. It is with deep humility that we bow and thank God for having allowed this precious jewel to be part of our family. His warm and loving ways will truly be missed by all.
He leaves with cherished memories, his loving and devoted children, Dawn, James Jr., Jeffery, Kathy and Jessie; grandchildren, Danielle, Carolyn, Niketah, Jessie, Jennifer, Valerie, Jonathan and Jarrett; great-grandchildren, Dante, Mariah, Miles, Jalena, Lillian, Octavia and Jace as well as a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.
