Obituary of Laurie Edward Jamieson
Please share a memory of Laurie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
This is the journey of Laurie Edward Jamieson's life. Laurie's journey in life began on June 5, 1926 and came to an end at 12:37pm on May 15, 2013. Laurie Edward Jamieson was born to Laurie and Sadie Jamieson in Collegeville, South Carolina.
Around the age of four, Laurie's mom and dad packed up the family and moved to Connecticut. They later moved to Brooklyn, NY where he grew up and attended school. Laurie's aspiration was to become a physician. Although, his dream to become a licensed physician did not come to fruition--- in his journey of life one could say that he was a physician as he quietly and steadfastly impacted the lives of those he came in contact with.
You see, Laurie, did not need a license to practice. His ability to heal, direct and mentor came naturally. He was just a fun loving guy and able to get along with everyone.
After completing High School Laurie married his sweetheart, "Dot" who often share the story that "Graduation" took place on August 16, and they were married on August 17, 1946. Laurie worked at several different jobs and retired from North-shore Plumbing in 1992.
Laurie raised his family in Jamaica Queens, NY. Also known as the "South Side". Laurie dedicated his life to his wife and his children. Laurie and his wife Dot became a "Power Couple" in the community where they raised their children and many other children. NO wife or child could have asked for more. He was always there for us. He professed his love to us, he provided for us and he protected us. Laurie was known as the "Man" in the neighborhood who always took the time to show his care and love for others. He was referred to as the God-father, Pops, Daddy and "Uncle Bubble". He took on the role as a father figure to many young men and women as he quietly provided, shelter, guidance, financial support and love to them.
Laurie was the Captain of the tenant patrol and established a strong organization in the community with a commitment to protect the neighborhood.. One of the many other admirable things Laurie did and will be remembered for is he managed a community center for young men to have a place to socialize at after school. Laurie would come homeroom work, eat dinner and faithfullyleave to open the center. He knew that this gesture of commitment would positively impact some young man's life in the future. He never complained about the task he just quietly and consistently performed this act of kindness with or without help of others.
Laurie also managed a baseball team for many years. Many of us have nothing but fond memories of the fun we had.
Laurie and his wife moved to Newtonville, NJ in 1994 to take care of his aunt. He loved the country life, gardening, cutting grass, sitting in the yard drinking a cold one and listening to music. He also enjoyed fishing, baseball and boxing.
As we say farewell to this great man, we must all be thankful and grateful that God gave so many of us the opportunity to know him. He was truly an inspiration and will be missed dearly by many.
Laurie leaves to cherish his loving memory, his loving wife, friend, partner of 66 years Dorothy Jamieson and his surviving daughter, Dyanne J. Jones. He is predeceased by his oldest daughter Victoria Jamieson, son Larry Jamieson and son Ronald Jamieson. He is also survived by his only sister Geraldine Patterson, four grandchildren, Denise Green, LaToya Somerville and husband Marvin, Desmon Jones, Deonna Williams and husband Hamel. Eleven great grandchildren, Aquan, Desmon, Daevon, Courtney, Jamel, Deontay, Javonna, Devin, Jaylin, Harlye and Janiya. There is also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
