Obituary of Elaine Elizabeth Anderson

Please share a memory of Elaine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On January 15, 1947, Elaine Elizabeth was born to Edith and Harcourt B. Roberts--that's when life began. Elaine grew up in South Philadelphia and attended Landreth Elementary, Audenierd Jr. High and John Bertram High Schools were she graduated in 1964. Elaine also attended nursing school for a year. Elaine was a loving and caring big sister to all of her siblings, taking care of them as only a big sister would by looking out for them and taking them with her wherever she could. With her firstborn daughter, Dawn, by her side,, Elaine met and married John C. Anderson and from this union her second daughter, Tamika was born. Elaine was a mother who loved her daughters beyond measure, teaching them first and foremost to look to God for everything. The first song she ever sang to them was, "Yes, Jesus loves me" for without him she nor they could do nothing. Elaine trusted and believed in God and was baptized and a faithful member of New Bethany Baptist Church for more than 50 years, where along the way she served as an Usher, Missionary, Choir member, Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher and a member of the Evangelism Team. Kyle, Vaughn and Tahj, Elaine's three grandsons, were the light of her life. Just to spoil them and watch them grow in to good, God-fearing, young men was a joy for her. She loved her entire family and the closeness they shared. Elaine was employed first at Spiegel's Department Store and then at the Veteran's Administration Department of 36 years. Along the way, she met some life-long friends. She loved to meet people on the way to work, especially seniors, and talk about life. Elaine retired on November 30, 2010. Anyone who knew Elaine, Knew that her favorite past time was shopping and her FAVORITE store was ROSS. She made it her business to visit there almost everyday after work to make sure she didn't miss something to the point, the employees knew her by name. She was up for any shopping trip. On Wednesday, January 23, 2013, with both of her daughters by her side, God called Elaine home and she was ready to go. She knew that her work was done, that her loved ones were waiting for her on the other side and most of all God's arms were open for her. Elaine leaves to cherish her memory always: Her mother, Edith Eleanor Roberts; her daughters Dawn Antoinette Williams and Tamika Nicole Anderson; her three grandsons, Kyle Aaron, Vaughn Anthony, and Tahj Avery; her 11 brothers and sisters, Eugene, Sr., Kevin, Louise, Mercedes and David; her beloved brothers-in-law, Charles and Wayne; her godchildren, Charles, Jr. and Lakita; one aunt Aunt Cleo, and her wonderful nieces and nephews; her dearest friends, Brenda, Richard, Eleanor and Margie; a host of cousins, church members and friends.
