What is an Era
A long and distinct period of history with a particular feature or characteristic. A system of chronology dating from a particular noteworthy event.
On December 11, 2012 an era ended with the passing of Bobbie Davis, my Mom, most from Somerdale "The Dale on fb), know her as Ms. Penny.
Her smile was a candle that lit the world. Her eyes are the twinkle of the stars and her character was the history of many before her, gentle and kind. She was the Oracle of the family passing on family history and the real meaning of love and family. Rest in peace my Beloved mother who touch soooo many lives. She was "Big Mamma" to many, those that told me stories that I never knew existed. And it was the same with Pop, Sam Davis I know y'all know who he was. As a kind and gentle, responsible, family man....You know old school the photo you are viewing now was taken by my dedicated Son who believes in family as does my nephew Mike and his family who I am so proud of for taking care of gmom in her last days. All grandsons did what they were suppose to do and let's not forget about Anthony who went beyond the call of duty always. I am proud to be apart of this family. I hope this message inspires my family, my extended family and my friends for only you will understand, because you are part of the Davis family of Somerdale NJ. Love and peace from my family to yours. Always stay in touch.

There is so much to say...with all kinds of difficulty because of the tears that are flowing down my face. Ms. Penny, My 2nd Mom, the woman who loved ME unconditionally and as her own...you will be sorely missed. Not too many people know, but you was there when I was born (hence my nickname, LilBit). You named me and my Mom (your best friend, Evelyn) named your daughter, that's why our names are Stacey & Tracey. Both of our families have been "FAMILIES" way before I was born, so with that being said, you and mom taught me how to "be" and "stay" a family. I know you are up in heaven with your husband, my Mom, Momma Rose & Uncle Pete and more "extended" family that have passed on. I am traveling from Georgia to get a last look at your beautiful face... But I know all will be well, as it is well, in my soul. Please kiss my momma for me. I will miss you and will always love you. Until we see again...Tracey

Family: Ife, Candy, Stacey, Akil, Michael, Anthony..the words are not sufficient to express my LOVE for your mom, grandmom, my second mom Ms. Penny. From the time the Davis family moved next door to us into 207 Ava Ave in 1967 bringing their lively and loving energy to the 'hood, I knew we were destined to be tied forever. Ms. Penny and my mom Darlene standing between the houses having a smoke talking about rose bushes, kids, husbands, venting and laughing about life. Mr. Sam mowing the lawn (still see him in that straw hat!), my dad washing his baby-blue caddie..bbq's in the backyard, hopscotch, double dutch, riding bikes and racing each other in the the misquito man truck mist! End of an era..you are so right! I can still hear your mom "hi Micky" whenever I came over your house..her laugh at us as we thought we knew it all! Your mom is a gentle, loving, nurturing woman who loved and looked out for my family when mom died suddenly eventhough her own pain was immense. So so many memories..too many to recount here. I am so blessed that I was able to spend time with her last year especially being her birthday and the joy on her face with her gifts..priceless! Glad she met her grandsons Ki and Ky and able to hold and kiss them. I wish I could be there with you but know I am with you in spirit. Love does not end because someone is no longer physically with us...their legacy of life and joy will always be apart of the fabric of who we are. The end of an era as we know it, yes is over..but dang what a ride it was!! Love you all so much. Peace and blessings Ms. Penny..give big hugs to Mr. Sam, my mom and dad :)

Losing someone that was truly loved is difficult. The Bible comforts us at Ecclesiates 3:11. “Everything he has made pretty in its time. Even to time indefinite he has put in their hearts.”

I remember Penny's soft voice, and her smile. There was a kindness that you recognized right away in her eyes. I admired her for the respect she showed toward others; Her zeal for the Word and what was Morally right. You sensed her "no-none-sense" strength coupled with Love immediately after getting to know her. I pray you girls will draw on that strength and the wonderful memory of her and receive comfort in the days ahead. Put your trust in Jesus just as she did during her ilness and you will be comforted, have peace, and eventually your Joy will return. God bless you and keep you strong and focused during this painfil time. You have the "PROMISE", YOU WILL SEE HER AGAIN.
