Horace Hammock III, affectionately known by his family as “Squirmy” was called home by God in His infinite wisdom on March 16, 2023. Horace, born on March 17, 1949, was the first of five children born to the late Horace and Dolores Hammock (nee Coleman) at Philadelphia General Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Horace was educated in the Philadelphia public school system. He attended Chester Arthur Elementary in South Philadelphia and William Bryant Elementary school in West Philadelphia. Horace attended Sayer Junior High and while in junior high, he went to a Billy Graham Crusade in New York City where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Horace graduated from John Bartram High School at the young age of 16. Horace met his love and life companion, Mary at work and they were wed in a holy union on February 12, 2005. For much of his adult life, Horace was a member of Sayer Methodist Church in West Philadelphia. He served as Chairman of Finance, Lay leader and Youth Minister. He was very proud that one youth from his ministry, later went on to become a Bishop in the Methodist church. After moving to Sicklerville, Horace joined Sicklerville United Methodist Church. Horace was an usher and an active member until he became sick and shut in.​ Horace worked as a data analyst for Jefferson Home Care Network, Radnor, Pa and retired in 2012 due to health problems. Horace loved trains, collecting fire trucks, and Hess trucks. Horace enjoyed listening to his scanner so he could be alerted of fires and other interesting happenings in his community. Horace loved traveling watching western movies, opera, plays, politics, reading and was a great historian. Horace was known in his family for saying the longest grace before Thanksgiving dinner. Most years it was almost Black Friday before dinner was served. Horace’s guilty pleasure was watching Jerry Springer. Horace was an outspoken man who never hesitated to tell you exactly what was on his mind. Horace loved his family and friends but more than anything he loved spending time with God and praying with his wife. Horace loved studying the Bible. He had multiple commentaries and bible study aides. Horace was predeceased by his parents Horace Hammock II and Dolores Hammock, and his brother Charles Hammock. Horace leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Mary, stepsons; David Johnson, Tyrel McCoy and wife Bianca, Eugene Lomax and wife Angel, Rodney Lomax, 15 grandchildren, three sisters; Estelle Bell, Deborah Hammock and Dolores Cook, and a host of other relatives and friends.
