Obituary of Charles H. Davis

Charles Herbert Davis was born on November 1st, 1932, in Camden, New Jersey to the late Aughtney and John Davis. He was the fifth child out of eleven children. Charles attended the Camden public school system and graduated from Camden High School in 1953. He was later drafted into the United States Army where he served in Communications. In 1951, Charles met the love of his life, Jean Worthington. They married on March 2, 1957. God blessed them with two beautiful children, daughter Gloria Jean Davis and son Mark Charles Davis Sr. Charles, who was good with his hands, built a loving home in Berlin, New Jersey for his wife and children. He worked in Medford, NJ from 1957-2009 for the ET Seaman Company, later acquired by Peter Lumber. Upon his retirement in 2009, he diligently served his family and neighbors by utilizing his knowledge and skills to build. Charles, affectionately known as “Pop Pop Charlie”, loved being around his family and telling stories of the “Good Ole Days.” His grandchildren and great- grandchildren always enjoyed hearing and learning about experiences from their Pop Pop Charlie! Charles accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He joined St. John’s United Methodist Church in 1963 where he loved serving the Lord and his community. He also played a significant part in helping build the new church. He served on many committees including Lay Leader, Lay Speaker, Trustee, Fishers of Men and the Men’s Choir. Charles was preceded in death by his beautiful daughter, Gloria Jean, his parents Aughtney and John Davis, his sisters Karen (Jim), Christine (Robert), Geraldine (Omar), his brothers William (Marguerite), Leroy (Elsie) and Samuel. Charles leaves to cherish his beautiful memory his faithful wife Jean, his son Mark Charles Davis Sr. (Bernice), son in law Calvin Williams, six beautiful grandchildren Corey J. Davis Sr. (Sharon), Crystal N. Banks (Doug Sr.), Mark Jr., Mitchell (Monique), Marnice Davis-Charles (Nick), April McDaniel-Oosterbroek (Norman), and 13 great-grandchildren Brionna (Tanya), Douglas II (Shantel), Devon, Corey Jr., Cameron, Michiya, Mitchell, Avi(Glenda), Trinity (Felicia), Zion, Thomas, Knox and DJ; his siblings Clarence (Eleanor), Martha (Franklin), Patsy (Steve), Joyce, godchildren Robert Allen Hill and William Hill, and a host of family and friends.
