Obituary of Twanya C. Morris

Please share a memory of Twanya to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Twanya was born to jean and Samuel Morris on May 11, 1964 in Newark, New Jersey. She attended and graduated from school in North Jersey. Twanya later relocated to South Jersey and finally settled in Williamstown, NJ with her caregiver and younger sister Cherise. One of Twanya's first places of employment was at Henry Colt's Snowball Turkey factor. She also worked with the Monroe township school district, then finally with Winslow township Board of Education as a school bus aide. She was a faithful employee until her illness would not allow her to continue employment. Reflecting on faithfulness, Twanya became a faithful member of Christ Care Unit Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Robert F. Hargrove Sr. where she served on both the Choir and Spirit of Light Praise Dance ministry. She was always on every outing the church had, she would scurry over to Baba’s store and get herself some snacks and be the one of the first people with a seat on the bus. Twanya loved singing so she sang on two gospel groups her oldest sister Tanya had put together, Faith, Hope and Love (in the 80’s) and GCG – God’s Chosen Generation (in the mid 90’s). Twanya sang soprano on both. Twanya also considered herself a bit of a fashionista and she enjoyed cooking for others. If you ever came to a family dinner, you were sure to find a pork shoulder, collard greens, and maybe crackling cornbread which is what Twanya was famous for cooking. She loved to travel, be it by plane, train or cruise ship, if there was a trip she was interested in, she was going to find the money to go. Oh! Let’s not forget how she always had somebody’s child with her. You see, Twanya was that sister you could leave your kids with, she wasn’t letting them get away with nothing … so everything and everybody were safe. Twanya had four godchildren she loved and adored, often waking them up at the crack of dawn to get them, then herself dressed for church or some excursion. Twanya leaves to join her brother Kevin Morris and their father Samuel Morris (both predeceased) and leaves to cherish her memories her mother Jean Morris; two aunts Connie Kennedy (who is also her godmother) and Carolyn Truesdale; four sisters Tanya Hayes, Cherise Morris, Shonderia Thomas and Samantha Morris; four godchildren Bashon, Daysha, Sharif and Taylor; 3 nieces, 4 nephews, 6 great nephews, 4 great nieces; 1 special nephew Derrick aka Jasper; a special sister-friend Mercedes; a multitude of cousins, extended family and friends. Twanya’s legacy will forever be remembered in her sisters, Tanya in fashion, Cherise in cooking and Shon in her feistiness and smile in Samantha. Along with other loved ones, Twanya is sure to be part of the conversations at family get togethers. This is not goodbye but so long until we are all together again. “Oh! If I had wings of a dove, I would fly away home".
