Lauri Brockenbrough was born December 30th, 1959 in Camden, New Jersey and went home to Jesus on Wednesday November 17th, 2021. Lauri was the first born of three children to the late Mary and Nathaniel Phillips’ tight knit family of five. She is also predeceased by her two brothers Nathan Phillips and Michea 'El Bey. Lauri spent her teenage years excelling academically and in all her hobbies. She held a title in the Miss Black New Jersey pageant and dazzled as the Head Cheerleader of Overbrook High School. After graduation Lauri went on to teach at Archway Schools and assist with several other educational programs. Lauri dedicated her life to the well-being of children and young adults. Her career spanned from an elementary school educator all the way to a state social worker with DYFS. Her efforts with children didn’t end there as she went on to mentor and became ‘Ma Dukes’ to all the neighborhood youth. Lauri was also known for her bubbly and bold personality. Whether she was sitting beside her husband on the Cape May boardwalk, reading a good book, watching her favorite movies with her family, or entertaining her grandchildren, you could always find her invested in the activities she adored. Lauri is survived by her husband Andre whom she loved greatly, her children Kirk and Briana, 5 grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
