George Clayton was born to Christine Clayton in Birmingham, Alabama on October 11, 1948. He was the eldest of eight siblings. As a child, George was enrolled in elementary school while growing up in Alabama. Upon his family’s relocation to the Lagorce Square neighborhood of Burlington, NJ, he continued his education and graduated from Burlington Township High School. For a brief period, he entered the work force however, following in the footsteps of his stepfather, John W Lee, Jr, he soon enrolled in the US Army in 1969. He served for twenty years and was honorably discharged in 1989 after two tours in Germany and a tour in Korea. While in the service, George met and fell in love with his soulmate, Susan Toomer. They were married on May 7, 1971 in Albion NJ. As a couple, they lived in Germany and Florida and eventually settled in Berlin, NJ. George was a family man and took great care of his wife and daughter, Renee. He enjoyed teasing and horsing around with family and friends. He was known for his dry sense of humor and often displayed a mischievous smile when he was up to something. One of his favorite phrases was ‘I don’t know”. George also liked barbequing on his grill, collecting Hess trucks and working on cars. He eventually became self-employed and established R&N Trucking. He bought an 18 wheeler tractor trailer and began delivering goods throughout the country for over 20 years. He was known by the CB handle, ‘Vice Grips’. George was a Freemason and was a member of the Prince Hall Holding #300 Lodge. In his final days, he made the decision to accept Jesus Christ as his Savior. He was predeceased by his siblings; Coleman ‘Butch’ Watts, Donzella Green and Debbie Lee. He leaves to mourn and cherish his memory his wife; Susan, his daughter; Susan Renee, his parents; John & Christine Lee, siblings: John Lee III, Frederick Lee (Cathy), Denise Lee, & Bedetta Lee, 3 Aunts; Dorothy Nunn, Geraldine Early & Leona Payne, In-laws; Stanley & Maxine Toomer, Wesley Toomer, Albert & Sonja Toomer, Dale & Leola Castro, & Clarence Toomer and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
