Obituary of Joseph Toney

Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joseph Toney was born on May 15, 1935 in Bishopville, South Carolina. He was the only son born to the late Carrie (Toney) Day. Reared by his loving grandmother Lula Toney, Joseph attended Bishopville public school and worked alongside his uncles farming family land. At the age of nineteen, he moved to Pennsylvania and then settled in Baltimore Maryland with his mother and began his trucking career until his retirement in 2000 from New Penn Express as a long-haul tractor trailer driver. From his first marriage, Joseph had four children, Josephine, Kevin, Katherine and Karen. Joseph was married on November 7, 1993 to JoAnn White. They enjoyed their life together often traveling abroad and planting flowers to beautify their yard. He spent most of his retirement living in Bishopville, South Carolina with his wife JoAnn taking care of his grandmother Lula. Joseph’s life truly became more meaningful when he learned the wisdom of Jehovah. In August 2014, Joseph symbolized his dedication to serving Jehovah and was especially fond of Psalm 91 where he reflected on constantly relying on Jehovah as his refuge and stronghold. He faithfully held on to the promised hope of the resurrection as he endured his 14-year battle with cancer. Joseph was a very loving, kind hearted gentle giant. His quick sense of humor gave him the ability to make friends with everyone. He loved to raise German Shepherd dogs and collect antique toy cars. On Sunday, March 7, 2021, with his family by his side, Joseph left us quietly and peacefully - the way he lived his life. Joseph leaves to cherish his memory his dear wife, JoAnn Toney; his children, William (Regina) White, Jacquelyne (Wallace) Callis, Darren (Sylvia) Grimsley, Lea Fair, JoAnn (Darryl) Dubose and Shala Fair. And a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, family and friends.
