Jimmie L. Langston, Sr. (affectionately called “Jazz” or “Big Jim”) was born on July 12, 1938 in Camden, New Jersey to the late Phillip and Georgia Langston. Jim answered the call of our Almighty God, as He summoned His child from labor to rest, on Friday evening, March 5, 2021. Jim was the youngest of six children and was predeceased by his sisters; Evelyn Kelly, Elnora Grayson and Julia Clark, one brother; Clarence Langston and a step - brother; Willie Salter. He was also predeceased by his firstborn daughter Lisa Langston, at a young age. Jim was educated in the Camden City Public Schools. Jim had many jobs but later was blessed with a job at the Haddon Heights Public Works until his retirement. Jim joined the Baptist Temple Church at an early age. He served on the Trustee Board and was a member of the Gospel Chorus, the Men’s Ministry and was participant in many other programs. Jim loved his church family and they loved him. He loved telling jokes and having fun with the youth of the church. He loved Pastor and First Lady Williams and often expressed how Godly proud he was of them. In the year 2010 Jim met Barbara Sheppard and they began dating in 2011. On December 24, 2012,Christmas Eve, Jim proposed to Barbara with all their children in attendance. On June 14, 2013, Jimmie and Barbara were united in Holy Matrimony. Jim loved his family and enjoyed getting together on holidays, birthdays, cookouts and other family events. He was fun loving, telling jokes and just enjoying life. Jim had a kind heart and helped anyone in need. Jim was known for his impeccable attire and participated in many fashion shows. Jim loved jazz music and played the saxophone for many years. He also loved vintage cars, having owned one himself and attended many car shows. He loved his truck and loved driving around town. You could find him every Saturday morning walking around the Palmyra Flea Market picking up various items. Jim was known for many things but most of all he was a child of God and he loved the Lord. Jimmie leaves to cherish his memory: His devoted and loving wife, Barbara, sons: Bret Waters (Wife), Jimmie (Jay) Langston, Jr., Daughter, Dawn Santana (Jessie), Grandson, Jimmie (Boopers) Langston, III, Sister, Mazie Horsey (James Johnson), Stepchildren: Paul, Pierre (Cedell), Marie, Derrick (Vina), Julia (Roe), his good friend, Gregory Parks (“Little Bro”) and a host of Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
