Memorializing the Life of Nathaniel Walter Jones Nathaniel Walter Jones was born on December 6th, 1924. He was born to Walter Nathan Jones and Ida Mae Harold in Norfolk, Virginia. Nathan fell asleep in death early Friday morning February 5th, 2021. Nathan was one of nine children, whom all preceded him in death. Nathan (affectionately known as “Sonny”) attended public school in Norfolk, VA. Nathan moved to Brooklyn, NY with his older sister at the age of twelve. He also went to school there for a brief while. He later joined the Navy. Upon discharge, he met and married his first wife Mabel. From this union there was one daughter, Harriett. Nathan later moved to Philadelphia, PA. There he attended Temple University College. He then opened a dry cleaners in North Philadelphia, PA. By then, he met Clara Vivian Jones, whom he married on June 3rd, 1956. This union lasted 53 years until Clara’s death in 2009, from this union there was thirteen children. In the late 1950s, Nathan, his sister Mary, and his mother Ida, dedicated their lives to Jehovah God. Nathan was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses at Connie Mack Stadium in Philadelphia, Pa. Nathan loved the Kingdom Ministry and one of his greatest desires was to become a full time minister or pioneer. Nathan attended many Kingdom Halls in Philadelphia, PA and often traveled where the need was great for witnessing. As Nathan progressed in the ministry, with the help of Jehovah God, he helped to bring many spiritual brothers and sisters into the Truth. Many of them are now Elders throughout numerous congregations. Often he would auxiliary pioneer, witnessing in various prisons in Pennsylvania, ministering to all who would listen, including the guards. Everywhere he went he was known as “Preacher Man” to all who knew him. In the early 2000s when his wife’s health started declining, both Nathan & Clara moved to Delaware where a number of their children and grandchildren lives. From here he became a member of the North New Castle congregation. As a member of this Kingdom Hall, Nathan would spend well over 15 years here. Many of his spiritual brothers and sisters remembers Nathan for his detailed comments at Kingdom meetings, his zealous attitude to go out in the field ministry, and his love on taking his friends out to eat. Nathan was also known for his style of dressing once he became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Dressed in his three piece suit, Stetson hat, Spectator shoes, pocket watch, and briefcase. He would say “If you stopped for a second, you were offered the Watchtower and the Awake. If you give him another second there was a Bible study started on the spot and a back call (now known as a return visit) was set up.” When Nathan health allowed it he would drive, catch a ride, get on public transportation, or even walk to meet with friends, to go on return visits or Bible studies. Nathan was very strong willed, a strict but loving person, who through health and illness spoken time and again of Jehovah God and spiritual matters. Urging all of his children to attend services at the Kingdom Hall and to truly get to know Jehovah and His only begotten son, Jesus Christ. Nathan is survived by his seven remaining children. Beverly Jones-Levins(David), Cynthia Jones, Nathan Jones III, Jeffrey Jones(Kathy), Bonnie Jones, Bryan Jones, & Valerie Kent(Peter). A host of grand, great grand, and great, great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
