Please share a memory of Patricia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Patricia (Patsy) Mae (Toomer) Washington was the oldest child born to the late Albert Walker Toomer, Sr., and Leola Dorothell (Quinn) Toomer on March 25, 1942 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The family moved to East Berlin, New Jersey when Patsy was still a child. Patsy attended the Berlin Township School System. She later attended Lower Camden County Regional High School District #1 in Lindenwold, NJ. When the school district grew, Patsy transitioned to the newly built Edgewood Regional High School in 1958 where she was a member of the National Honor Society. Afterwards, Patsy continued her education at Camden County College in Blackwood, NJ, specializing in nursing. Always learning, she also achieved her cosmetology license at Lincoln Prep in Philadelphia. During her childhood, Patsy attended Sunday School at the family church; Pilgrim’s Rest Disciples of Christ in East Berlin, which is where her formal religious training began. She accepted the Lord as her personal savior and was baptized and was an active and faithful member. She later transferred her membership to St. John’s United Methodist Church where she was a regular member of the bible study in addition to being active in the Hearts of Joy and Gospel Choirs. She loved and was always requested to sing the song “Covered”. She also enjoyed time reading her Bible and daily devotionals. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Patsy had a servant’s heart and desired to help people. She loved visiting the sick and elderly. Oftentimes, she would make soup to aid in their recovery or drop a few dollars inside a card to bless someone. It was her personal ministry. Patsy was disciplined and worked hard throughout her career life. Her employment began at Ancora State Hospital. She also worked for the Camden County Juvenile Detention Center located on the Lakeland Campus in Blackwood, NJ. and retired after 25 years of dedicated service. She married Raymond Moragne and from this union came her first born, Raymond Darnell Moragne. She later married Esau Washington and from this union came Delacey Cornell Washington and Essaia Patrice Washington. Patsy loved her family, her church family, and her friends. She had a flare for life often shown when she had her sets. She loved dancing especially to James Brown’s “I Feel Good”. She was full of joy, and she dealt with the hurts of life in a courageous manner as she walked along her earthly journey. She held her head high, kept a smile, and maintained her laughter. On February 2nd as she peacefully slept, God called her home. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, 3 loving children; Raymond Darnell Moragne, Delacey Cornell Washington, and Essaia Patrice McLaren, her loving grandchildren; Amin McGruder, Sr., Marcel Moragne, Delacey Tyree Washington, and Xavier McLaren, four great grandchildren; Amin McGruder, Jr., Cierra Furman, Aiden Washington, Zion Washington, six siblings; Susan (George) Clayton, Stanley (Maxine) Toomer, Wesley Toomer, Albert W.
