Obituary of Dwayne Thompson

Dwayne Thompson was born on September 5, 1964 to Nelson and Florine Thompson. They were the proud parents of a baby boy. He was their first-born and their pride and joy. After a lengthy bout with various medical conditions Dwayne passed from labor to reward on December 19, 2020. Dwayne was educated in the Sharon Hill School System and upon moving to Mullins, SC, he graduated from Mullins High School. Shortly after his graduation, the family moved to New Jersey. There Dwayne worked with his father in their family-owned floor care business, Thompson Janitorial. Dwayne was reared in the church and gave his life to the Lord at an early age. He loved the Lord and serving in ministry. While in South Carolina, he attended the Highway Church of Christ, Inc. in Marion, SC, where Bishop R.F. Davis was his Pastor. Dwayne sang on the choir, ushered, was part of the Youth Department, directed the choir from time to time, and was a member of "The Esquires", a male singing group. When the family moved back to New Jersey, they attended The Highway Church of Christ in Sharon Hill, PA where Mother Edna D. Johnson was his Pastor. There he served in various capacities. Dwayne married his high school sweetheart in 1990 and to this union two wonderful children were born, Dwayne Jr., who he affectionately calls D.J. and Taylor, who he affectionately called “Shortcake.” Dwayne relocated to Richmond, VA with his young family where he attended James Madison University and completed a “Facilities Management Course.” He acquired gainful employment with the University of Richmond. He was a faithful servant and worshipped the Lord at Redeemed Assembly Church where Bishop James F. Harris was his Pastor. he was ordained to the office of Deacon, served as President of the Men's Ministry and served on the Counting team at this ministry. Dwayne always sought to excel in life and in the Lord. In 2001 the family moved to Atlanta, Georgia. He continued to work in the vineyard and worshipped at World Changers Church International where Creflo Dollar was his Pastor. He was a leader in the Barrier Breakers Ministry. Dwayne remained faithful to the Lord and the ministries he supported by attending all services and soaking up the word of God. His favorite scripture was II Corinthians 5:1. “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle was dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. Dwayne was a loving son, who always was there for everyone. He never gave his parents any trouble. He was a humble and meek young man that would support you. His parents remember him being very respectful, quiet and one who honored his Elders. He loved his family and remained obligated to their well-being. Due to medical conditions he was not able to return to Georgia, but his allegiance to his family remained strong. His love for God never wavered and when he returned to New Jersey he joined Brighter Day Greater Highway Church of Christ, International where Pastor Rosie Williams the International Mother of the Greater Highway Church of Christ was his Pastor. He was their Audio Engineer, Sunday School Superintendent, Assistant Director of Voices of Brighter Day, and the Director of the Men’s Choir. He was a light to all who knew him. The void left by this loss will be felt throughout the ministry, but those Dwayne mentored are left to carry the torch. Dwayne’s siblings remember him as a good brother, who would drive them and their friends around. He was someone to be admired with a laid-back demeanor and a good heart. He loved to eat and cook. He was also a jokester and would always tease his sister Nelcine. He had a special love for children, and they reciprocated that love, because he was so patient with them. Although he was a quiet soft-spoken man, he was highly intelligent and an avid Philly Sports Fan. His brother-in-law felt like he was the older brother he never had. Their unique connection was that they both knew a little bit about everything and he always gave him great marital advice concerning his sister. Dwayne will be missed by all who is lives he touched in such a special way. He was the Audio Engineer at his church, a good brother, son, father, sibling and friend. Dwayne loved and appreciated his family. He leaves to cherish his memory; his mother Florine Thompson, his father Deacon Nelson Thompson, his children Dwayne Thompson, Jr and Taylor Thompson, his sisters Wanda Pressley, Priscilla Watkins (Carl Shawn) and Nelcine Thompson, A special Brother-in-law Kenny Pressley, two nephews, Brian (Judy) and Kameron, two nieces, Krissy and Kiana, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He also leaves a wonderful Pastor, a loving church family and special friends, Rufus and Sharon Jones, Will and Phyllis Harris, both from Richmond VA.
