Obituary of Effie Williams

Please share a memory of Effie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Effie was born January 31, 1920 in Edgefield County, South Carolina to the late Lula and Henry Greene. At a very early age she received Christ as her savior, whom she put first and foremost in her life. He was her protector and guide during her entire life through the good and bad times. She received her formal education in the rural school system in Edgefield County where she excelled greatly in her school work and was encouraged by her mother, who was an educator herself, to continue learning at a higher level. After finishing high school, she attended Bettis Academy Junior College in Trenton, South Carolina. She received a two years teachers' certification and taught briefly in Saluda County System. While attending Bettis Academy, she met her husband to be Julius Williams. They were united in marriage in 1942. In search of better economic opportunities, Effie and her husband relocated to New York State. After 6 years of marriage, they became parents of a son, Julius Arnold II. Arnold death preceded both his parents. Effie and Julius traveled extensively and enjoyed life to the fullest. She was a quiet person but well respected among her family, friends and neighbors. Due to her aging and health related illnesses, she was unable to entertain in the usual manner she had become accustomed to over the years. Therefore, she did things she could do and did not worry about what she could not do. She was the caregiver for her husband when he became ill with age related disabilities until his death in 2008. Her hobby was decorating her home of which she had many ideas over the years. After moving from Massapeque, N.Y. to Sicklerville NJ, she united with Christ Care Unit Missionary Baptist Church, Sicklerville, NJ. When attending church, she always felt the spirit of God among the saints. Effie leaves to cherish her memories: 3 granddaughters, Kim Mayo of New York, Kelly Williams of Florida, Kiesha Pope of Virginia; 13 great-grands, great-great-grands; a very special niece, Gayle Cody Mayo; a special nephew who loved and cared for her though sickness and health, Ellis Williams and a host of nieces, relatives and friends.
