Obituary of Florence B. Dixon

Please share a memory of Florence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Deaconess Florence Beatrice (nee Blocker) Dixon of South Egg Harbor, NJ passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her children and was welcomed home into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 25, 2020. Florence was born on July 27, 1931, in Hammonton, NJ to the late Celest and Estella Blocker. Florence was a lifelong resident of Egg Harbor City\South Egg Harbor and was well known for her love for fashion. Florence came to know the Lord at an early age and became a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church, she would later move her membership to Second Baptist Church in Atlantic City. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church for some 35 years during which time she along with several other God-fearing moms were instrumental in starting a young singing group the “The Mighty Crusaders!” They traveled all over South Jersey and Philadelphia singing God's praises wherever and whenever they were called. While members of Second Baptist Church she and her husband Alvin Dixon served as Deacon and Deaconess for as long as their health allowed under the pastorate of Rev. Collins A. Days Sr. and his wife whom she loved dearly “because he lived what he preached!” Florence loved dressing up and was dressed to impress even if she was going to the local grocery store. She made sure she was the center of attention and made it her business to be fashionably late. Her past employment included Lennox China, a special needs bus driver for Atlantic County, Harbor Fields, and also a Care Giver for the handicapped in her home. Florence was married to Deacon Alvin Dixon who predeceased her in death in 2005 after 55 years of marriage, and to this union were born 9 children. Florence leaves behind to mourn her loving memory 9 children, Alvinia Garcia (Kermit), Estella Blackwell, Darrel Dixon (Mia), Florence Berry, Alvin Dixon, Linda McClinton, Andrew Dixon (Connie), Joseph Dixon, Christopher Dixon (Pat). 4 sisters, Estella Williams, Doris Lazenby, Catherine Handy, Victoria Phillips, 4 brothers, Henry Blocker (Sandra), Alex Blocker (Vernice), Charles Blocker, Leonard Blocker, 23 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grands. Her best friends Hazel Nelson, Beverly Bland and Barbara Wyman. She is predeceased by sisters, Georgia Blocker, Mattie Cummings, Margret Handy, Connie Allen, brothers, Richard Blocker, Victor Blocker, Fredrick Blocker, Gregory Blocker, grandson Alvin Antrell Blackwell, and Best friend, Christine Travis. Mom faced death with the courage of a true saint, laughing, telling us jokes, giving God praise and made her going home so easy for her children because of the wonderful attitude she had until the very end. She left her children awestruck by the reality of the Peace that only God could give, encouraged that He is who He said He is, inspired that the “death of His saints is indeed a beautiful thing”. Mom died a beautiful death and we all can only pray that we to can depart with such grace. Lovingly Submitted, The Family
