Obituary of Frances T. Hawkins

Please share a memory of Frances to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Frances Theresa Hawkins (“Tee” to some) was born on October 23, 1930, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late John Hamilton and Margaret Porter Hamilton. Frances was the older of two children and she was predeceased by her brother, Clarence Hamilton. Frances was married to the true love of her life, William (Bill) Sterlon Hawkins, who predeceased her, for over thirty years. Upon marrying Bill, she became mother to Sandra Hawkins Robinson (Washington, D.C.) and Sterlon A. (Tony) Hawkins, who predeceased her. Frances and Bill loved and cared for each other throughout their years of marriage, and provided a warm and nurturing home for Sandra and Tony. Early in their marriage they lived in Atlantic City, NJ, where many precious family memories were created through fun times on the beach and strolls along the boardwalk. Frances had a long career in retail sales, specializing in women’s clothing. She began her career as a sales associate at the famed Homberger’s on Atlantic Avenue in Atlantic City. As Homberger’s neared closure, Frances moved on to sales associate positions in women’s boutique clothing stores. After many years of service, Frances eventually retired from her last sales position with the May Department Stores Company. In addition to her daughter, Sandra, Frances is survived by her dear granddaughter, Mary (Angel) R. Wallace, Washington, D.C., and grandsons Brennan Hawkins, Atlanta, GA, and Christopher Hawkins, Oakland, CA; her loving niece, Tauheedah Muniir, NJ, and nephews, Mark Hamilton (Lynn), Fresno, CA, and Craig Williams (Jean), Baltimore, MD; cousins Connie Tyson, Philadelphia, PA, Purnell Porter, NC, Virginia Porter Barnes, Washington, D.C., Marie Porter Todd, Raleigh, NC, and Mamie Porter Rogers, NY; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-nieces, great-nephews and close family members and friends. Frances will be interred at the Veterans Cemetery in Estell Manor, Atlantic County Park, next to her beloved Bill.
