Obituary of Jacqueline Lacy Davis

God saw that she was weary and sent his angels down, And now she’s up in Heaven wearing a Golden Crown. JACQUELINE LACY DAVIS was born on March 15, 1937 in Ardmore, PA, to the late James and Katherine Bryan. She was the oldest of three children and was predeceased by her brother, Gregory R. Bryan. More commonly known as “Jackie” to her family and friends and “MumMum” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jackie was educated in the Philadelphia public school system, having graduated from Overbrook High School. She told many stories of riding in the back of a fish truck down that infamous hill in West Philadelphia. Jackie was later joined in holy matrimony to the late John D. Davis, II. From that union, they were blessed with four children: two sons and two daughters. She accepted Christ at an early age and worshipped at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA. Jackie was a member of the Youth Choir. After relocating to Clayton, New Jersey, Jackie became a faithful member of St. Paul’s Baptist Church. Jackie was a devoted member of St. Paul’s and attended worship services regularly until her health failed. Jackie’s work history included various secretarial positions in Philadelphia, PA. In addition to her day job, Jackie held numerous barmaid positions in the City. Her pleasing personality and winning smile made her a favorite among her customers. Those hips didn’t hurt either. After relocating to Clayton, NJ, Jackie made history as the very first African American Secretary to the Principal of Clayton High School (much to the chagrin of her teenaged children). She last worked as an Assistant to children with special needs. Jackie was a very hard worker and possessed an exemplary work ethic. She had a heart of gold and a very tenacious spirit. Her hobbies included reading, doing puzzles and lastly, her infamous crocheted blankets. Jackie loved listening to Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Dionne Warwick and the Whispers, to name a few. While Jackie may have given birth to four children, there are countless others that called her “Mom” and “MumMum”. Jackie was predeceased by her longtime companion Thomas Ennis. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted brother James (Shirley); her dedicated children John, III, (Antoinette), Juanita (Coy), Judith (Anthony) and James, Sr.; her beloved grandchildren Nicole (Joseph), Johnathan, Adia (Andre), Ayesha (Daniel), John, IV, Jacqueline, Sonya, Donald (Carmen), James, Jr., Anthony, Donise, Aaron and Katherine; 18 great-grandchildren; cousin Arthur (June); nieces, nephew, a host of other cousins and friends.
