John C. Roy was born on July 10, 1933 in Bowling Green, Virginia. He was born to Alexander L. Roy and Bernice M. Rollins Roy; sibling to William A. Roy and Laura Lee (Roy) Howard. At a young age, John was baptized at Second Baptist Church, Moorestown, New Jersey. John was a graduate of Palmyra High School and shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged and returned to his hometown in Moorestown, New Jersey. Following that, John had worked for Lavino Shipping Company, Local 1332, Philadelphia, PA., as a Forman.
He was a true gentleman who was always ready to help anyone that needed it. John loved all kinds of music. He liked walking the neighborhood and was a member of the town watch. He was a well known independent junk man. John was also devoted to his family and especially his grandkids. He will always be remembered for his love of family gatherings, after dinner snacks, as well as traveling to visit family in Virginia.
He leaves with precious memories: his wife of 61 years, Rhoda Ann (Ganges); son John K. Roy (Detrice Payton); brother William A. Roy (Delores); three grandchildren, Nina, Nicole Viavd (Marlon) and Natalie; four great grandchildren, Kala, Nala, Ka'Shawn and Milana and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and devoted friends.
