Bobby Wayne Harris was born the second youngest of five children to the late Bennie Lee and Thelma Harris on July 22, 1948, in Falkland, North Carolina. Bobby attended South Greene Training School in Snow Hill, North Carolina where he graduated in 1967. He continued his education by attending Saint Augustine College in Raleigh, North Carolina graduating in May 1971 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. While at Saint Augustine College he pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He was a well-known student and participated in their athletic programs (baseball, basketball, and track). As one of his visions to work in the community, Bobby founded The D.O.T. Organization, Inc. (Dreams of Tomorrow) as a charitable and educational means of addressing community concerns. Bobby was determined that a remedy to many of the issues was the leadership of and influence on community teens. His experience in community affaires, teen, and senior programs spanned decades. He partnered with local, state, and federal organizations to create a healthier and safer communities for all residents. Bobby moved to South Jersey in 1971. Although community business owners, leaders, and residents have given him many titles of honor and respectability his continued work in the community proved that he was indeed an outstanding New Jersey citizen. Some of Bobby's accomplishments and accolades include: - Probation Associaton of NJ Citizen of the Year Award - Gloucester Township Black History Month Award - Recipient of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., NJ Garden City Alumnae Chapter - Real Fathers Real Men Founders Award - President, national Pan-Hellenic Council of Atlantic County - President, Winslow Township Schools Education Foundation - Founder, CEO, and Board President of A.B.L.E. (Association of Business Leaders and Entrepreneurs) - Member of the NAACP Camden County East - Member of the Community Planning and Advocacy Council, Youth Services Commission - Member of the Gloucester County Law Enforcement Diversity Recruitment Initiative - Charter member PiKappa Kappa Graduate Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. - Recipient of the NAACP Outstanding Citizen Award, NAACP Visionary Award - Zeta Man of the Year - Pi Kappa Kappa Chapter Omega Man of the Year; Omega Citizen of the Year and Businessman of the Year - Recipient of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., The Upsilon Delta Omega Chapter Community Award - Entrepreneur - Carolina Beauty Supplies and Carolina Beauty Salon - Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Award 2021 Camden County Freedom Medal - Winslow Township School District 2022 Community Service Award Bobby was an accomplished entrepreneur in the South Jersey area for more than 50 years. He partnered with large corporations such as Atlantic City Electric, Sam's Club, Wawa, Inc., Camden County College - Blackwood Campus, American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, Department of Child Protection and Permanency, Foster or Adoptive Parent, Gloucester Township Police Department and numerous other companies and community organizations. Bobby was a pillar in his community and, as part of a solid foundation, committed himself and his organization to building a better community for South Jersey residents. Bobby leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Sheena Harris; daughter Kesha Dozier (Maurice); son Lakeem Dwight (LaTonya); grandsons Damien and Donavan; granddaughter Lexi; sisters Earnestine Foreman (Clifton) and Apostle Janie Collins, Gwendolyn Williams; brother Jesse E. Harris (Joyce), as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, a host of other relatives, Omega brothers, community daughters, sons and friends.
