The Life & Legacy of Charlene Renee Marshall

Charlene, affectionately known as Lulu, was born on March 2, 1965, in Philadelphia, PA to Janice and Charles Downing.  From an early age, she demonstrated her strong since of humor, sassy attitude, resilience & caring heart.  Lulu met some of her dearest friends Angie Smalls, Dina Rose & Cindy Townsend, as a young child, once moving to NJ & becoming a Candy Striper at West Jersey Hospital.  She graduated, in 1983, from Camden High School in Camden, NJ.  She loved to visit with all of her family in Philadelphia where she’d hang with a few of her favorite cousins, also known as “The Cuz Crew”.  She later pursued a career in healthcare administration, where her dedication and hard work earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues alike.  She worked at Kennedy Health System for 14 years where she made friendships that were everlasting, including another close friend Evette.

Charlene was a member of Victory Temple Community C.O.G.I.C, since 1994.  As a member she accepted the lord as her savior and was baptized not long after.  She acted as a dedicated member of the WOW committee; and anywhere else she was needed; Sister Marshall was there.  She shared a special sister hood with the women of the church   Through all she went through with her health & wellness her faith in God never ceased.

Family was the center of Charlene’s life.  She was a devoted and loving wife to Craig Marshall, whom she married on July 28, 1990.  Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.  Craig’s unwavering devotion was a testament to the vows he made to Charlene.  Through sickness and health, he remained faithfully by her side each day, surrounding her with enduring love, comfort and steadfast companionship.  As a mother, she was a pillar of strength and guidance to her daughters, teaching them the values of hard work, compassion, and integrity.  Lulu loved her children, but nothing compared to the love she had for her grandchildren.  Her grand girls would call her Mom-Mom, she loved that her grand boys called her Boo-Boo; Ther were her pride and joy, and she delighted in every moment spent with them.

Charlene fought a good fight, and she leaves behind a great legacy.  Proceeding her in death are her mother Janice, her brother Donald & her sister’s Gwendolyn & Jeanette.  To carry on her legacy is her father Charles, her husband Craig, her Aunt Lydia Carter, her daughter’s Danielle & Shantele.  Four grandchildren Janelle, Za’Miyah, Kameron & Chance.  Two Brother’s Perry (Annette) & Curtis (Ruby), Three sister’s Cynthia, Diana & Lydia.  Her brother and sister in laws Milke (Carmen), Leslie & Brian (Denise) Two God son’s L.C. & Devon, One God daughter T’Sela.  As well as a host of Nieces, Nephews, Family & Friends
