Obituary of Joan P Holmes

Very quietly, our Heavenly Father, in His infinite wisdom, gently closed the eyes of our beloved Joan and called her to her eternal rest on November 16, 2025. Joan Patricia Lancaster Holmes was born July 6, 1930 to the late Walter and Marie Lancaster. She attended Lower Camden County Regional High School with her childhood sweetheart, the late Albert Johnnie Holmes. Joan and Albert were wed in 1956 and remained sweethearts until his passing in 2012. Joan worked at Ancora State Hospital and did volunteer work for the Salvation Army, and many other volunteer organizations, alongside her beloved Albert. They resided in Camden, NJ and later moved to Sicklerville, NJ in 1965. Here they raised their only son, Anthony Dwayne. Later in life Joan moved to Glassboro, NJ with her son and daughter-in-law, Christy, where she resided until her passing. Joan accepted Christ as her personal savior and worshipped at Christ Care Unit Missionary Baptist Church, where she was very active in the Senior Ministry. When her health no longer permitted her to attend in person, she enjoyed the streamed services and many visitations from her church family. Joan enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, puzzles, and praising the Lord. Some of her favorite songs were 'Never Would Have Made It,' 'I Won't Complain,' but especially 'My Soul is Anchored in the Lord' which she sang loud and proud in her final days even as her memory faded. Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Marie Lancaster; her husband of 55 years, Albert Holmes; her siblings, Louise Ruley, Edith Medley, Ada Walton, William Lancaster and Barbara Lancaster. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Anthony (Christy); grandchildren, Anthony Jr., Ashley, and Nia; her great grandchildren, Sonny and Adriel; her caregiver, Alfreda Miles; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.
