Obituary of Ella Corbin
Please share a memory of Ella to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ella C. Scott was born in Shirley, New Jersey on August 21,1929, to the late Morton Scott Sr. and the late Alice B. Hall Scott-Tunstall. She was one of nine children who was raised in Woodstown, NJ. At a young age, Ella was baptized at Morning Star Baptist Church in Woodstown, NJ. She was a child of God and loved the Lord. Ella later joined Kaighn Avenue Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Watts.
Ella (Reedie) attended elementary school in Daretown, NJ. She furthered her education by attending Woodstown High School and graduated in 1947. Ella loved sports and played basketball during her high school years. Upon graduation, Ella worked at Anchor Hocking Glass Factory.
Ella met and married the love of her life Everett O. Corbin Sr. They were united into holy matrimony on September 2, 1948. They moved to Camden in Everett gardens on Everett Street. The couple was blessed to have six children: Letha, Everett Jr. (Junie), Morton (Louie), George Sr. (Skitch), Cheryl, and Wayne. In 1965, the family moved to Lindenwold, NJ, making their mark as the first black family in the neighborhood.
Ella became a sales representative for AVON PRODUCTS, INC., on February 2nd, 1967. She quickly became known as our neighborhood AVON Lady. She loved to attend Avon's national convention in Atlantic City. Ella sold so much Avon that she was awarded into their Presidents club. Avon made her a team leader. Ella took on the job title and quickly assembled a team. Under her leadership, Ella's team ended each year with high sales. Ella would go on to sell AVON for 57 years.
She joined the Order of Eastern Star Arbor Vitae Chapter #40 located in Lawnside, N.J. She humbly served on the hospitality committee and held the title of Worthy Matron. Ella also was an active member of the Daughter of ISIS, Pyramid #17. She also worked for the Board of elections, serving as the judge for years.
Ella found her greatest joy and purpose in being a mother to her six children. Whether it was preparing meals, helping with homework, or offering a listening ear, she gave each child her full heart. Despite the challenges of raising a large family, her love was constant and unconditional. Ella embodied the definition of
selfless motherhood.
Ella loved watching her beloved Philadelphia Phillies, Sixers, the Pittsburgh Steelers and her afternoon soaps. She loved to travel with her family to the Bahamas, Las Vegas, and take cruises. Family time was precious to Ella, as she and Everett hosted Thanksgiving Eve and Christmas Day dinner every year with loved ones. The night wasn't complete unless she got in a card game of pinnacle. Her legacy will continue to live on as the family
traditions she created will be cherished forever and continued for generations.
Ella was affectionately known to her grandchildren as "Nana." She was the ride or die grandmom who not only babysat her grands, but also attended sporting events, shared her recipes and taught them how to be jazzy! Nana's house was the place to be after school as she made sure everyone had a snack.
On August 25, 2025, God chose to call her home. Her memory will be forever in our hearts. She was preceded in death by her parents; Morton Scott Sr. and Alice B. Hall Scott-Tunstall; four brothers, Joseph, William, Morton Jr., and George Scott; four sisters, Marion, Elizabeth Braxton, Alice Crews, Kathryn Corbin- Young; sisters-in-law, Irma, Alberta and Odetta Scott; brothers-in-law, James Braxton and Lamar Young; son-in-law, Richard

Ella will be greatly missed by her children, Letha M. Harrison; Everett O. Corbin Jr. (Carolyn); Morton L. Corbin (Barbara); George R. Corbin Sr. (Toni); Cheryl L. Corbin Cox (Daniel); Wayne D. Corbin Sr. (Deanna); brother-in-law Earl Corbin (Denise); Goddaughter Nikita L.
