Madeline Carrie Maxwell was born to Carrie and Edward Wanzer on January 28 1925 in Chesilhurst New Jersey. She was the youngest of 6 children. Madeline began playing the piano at the tender age of 3 years old. She knew her talent for the piano was truly a gift from God. Madeline was self taught and never had any lessons. Madeline continued to do God works playing for various churches starting out with Grant AME Church, Calvary Baptist, St.John's United Methodist, Green Grove and many more totaling to be about 50 or more churches throughout the years.

Madeline was asked to play the piano for Mahalia Jackson, Clara Ward and The Dixie Hummingbirds and turned that down because she was devoted to her family. She was also asked by Minister Catherine Psema from Sierra Leone to travel to Ghana, West Africa to help start up a church.

Madeline married the love of her life Paul L. Maxwell Sr in 1942 and together the union was blessed with 9 beautiful children Paul L. Maxwell Jr, Jaqueline Maxwell, Donald Maxwell, David Maxwell, Robert Maxwell, Lynn Jackson, Russell Maxwell, Mary Maxwell and Robin Pressley

During her early years Madeline worked multiple jobs including Camden Ship Yard, Broom Factory, Berlin Bus Company and Ancora State Hospital.

During her free time Madeline enjoyed fishing/ crabbing but most importantly loved spending time with her family and of course playing her piano.

Madeline has received numerous awards for the ministering of music she has done all over and the person she was in the community. She was featured various news articles.
