Obituary of Alice Farmer
Alice "Cookie" Farmer
Alice Farmer, affectionately known as “Cookie” to her childhood family and friends, was born on February 27, 1954, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, to the late Leslie Carlisle Sr. and Sally (Foster) Carlisle. She was educated in the New Brunswick public school system and proudly graduated from New Brunswick High School.
On September 25, 1976, Alice married the love of her life, Frederick G. Farmer of Freetown, Sierra Leone. The couple later settled in South Jersey, where they lovingly raised their family. Alice pursued higher education at Glassboro State College (now Rowan University), earning a Bachelor's degree in Education.
In 1984, Alice began her career as an elementary school teacher—a role in which she thrived and brought boundless love and dedication. Her passion for early childhood education was evident in the nurturing and inspiring environment she created for her students. Alice retired after 27 years of service at Bonsall Elementary School in Camden, New Jersey, where she left a lasting legacy in the hearts of students, families, and colleagues.
Beyond the classroom, Alice was a devoted servant of her community. She was a faithful member of Arch Street United Methodist Church, where she helped serve meals to the homeless, a cause close to her heart. At Fellowship United Methodist Church, Alice extended her ministry as a Lay Pastor, using her gifts to support and uplift the congregation. A natural giver with a gentle spirit, Alice welcomed all she encountered with warmth and grace. Her life was marked by extraordinary service and selflessness, and her caring nature continues to resonate in the countless lives she touched.
Alice was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Leslie and Sally Carlisle; her brothers, Leslie Carlisle Jr. and Brian Carlisle; and her sister, Cheryl Carlisle.
She leaves behind a rich legacy of love and faith through her husband Frederick G. Farmer of 48 years and five children: Frederick E. Farmer and Cashor Farmer, both of Runnemede, NJ; Oladumi and Martinique Sr. of Charlotte, NC; George (Jamie) of Sicklerville, NJ and Marquis Carlisle of Runnemede, NJ. She is also survived by her brother, Paul Carlisle of New Brunswick, NJ; six cherished grandchildren: Martinique Jr., Malachi, Micah, Jedidiah, Elijah, and Naomi; and one great-grandson, Mias. Alice also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Alice "Cookie" Farmer’s love, wisdom, and unwavering faith will forever be remembered and deeply missed.
