I've known the Richmond & Tomasco girls since the early 70s or maybe even the late 60s. We weren't driving yet.
We parallel played in Harvey Cedars from those early days until still now.
I have always been fond of them.
Once, a few years ago, when I was reminding Karen of how much I loved them, she said that she thought I was too cool to hang out with them much back in the day! Impossible!!! I told her No, it was just that all the Harvey Cedars boys were so enamored of them that some of us had to go to Beach Haven to get attention from other boys!
That was a long time ago. We have been playing happily, side by side as often as possible for decades now.
As time went on, our relationship grew and endured through just about everything. I had enormous respect and love for Karen. I think of her as family gone too soon.

This is a picture of the “friendship rock “that Karen painted back in 1974. She gave them out to her select friends .. 51 years later, I still have mine and will forever hold it dear. Thank you Karen, for your wonderful and eternal friendship. . Sending love and prayers to the most amazing family ever . ❤️

Through my later years of "growing up" and learning to trust my own thoughts, values and beliefs, Karen was one of the most aligned & quietly influential humans in my life. While she may have seemed to others as just another cousin, or summer neighbor... our talks while often lighthearted we're always purposeful. I admired her fearlessness. Whether in person fighting for her kids, her health or a Facebook post fighting for love, equality and always denouncing hatred. I would often support her words and debates, but far more importantly I strived to align with her values. I will miss our summer conversations on Lee ave greatly.
Love & strength to Richie, Averie, Clinton, Jordan, Bonnie, Judy, Mirkil, her grandchildren and extended family & friends who will feel her loss until they're reunited again.

Q: What will you miss most about Karen?
A: Mommy… I will miss your tags, your posts, the pictures and stories you shared. I’m so devastated that you’re gone.
Though it still wasn’t enough time, I’m still extremely grateful for the 8 additional years we got with you, that we initially weren’t supposed to have.
I thought when it was your time to go, it would be because the cancer came back and there was nothing more that could be done. I imagined being able to hold your hand and be by your side and slowly come to terms with losing you. We didn’t get that. But I have so many beautiful memories with you. And I know that’s how you would want to be remembered.
Your last visit to NC was one of the best memories. You came to church with me and on the way home, you looked at me and told me that I seemed happy and proceeded to ask if I was… I told you “yes… I actually am”. You smiled and said, that’s all you want for me.
Mommy, you fought hard and loved even harder. Your love is everywhere. It will continue to live on. We will continue to feel it. We will continue to share it. Your love is your legacy.

“Karen, Bonnie, Judy… Karen, Bonnie, Judy”. I had heard it my whole life. It was like one name, as if we were one person. We were as close as sisters could be. Karen is someone you could search a lifetime for. A true best friend. Someone who I could always be myself with- my genuine self. I am thankful every day that I was able to call that person my big sister.
Now Karen is gone, and “Karen, Bonnie, Judy” will never be the same. We are forever changed. A hole in our trio where we will hold our memories forever.
Keep up the fight, Karen. And, of course, dance.

Q: What will you miss most about Karen?
A:
My life has forever changed. I have lost a sister, a friend, and a comrade in arms. Karen used to make me laugh. She brought pure joy to my life. We enjoyed dancing and singing together. We grew up singing songs from when we were in chorus in school. She was alto I was soprano. We loved to harmonize. The Sound of Music and West Side Story were some of our favorites and I will miss those sisterly moments. We grew up dancing. We used to make up our own dances at home with our group of friends and introduce them at dances in the area. To this day, at any occasion, we would break into disco, fighting over who would lead. Thanksgivings was also special. Our table would stretch into another room in order to accommodate the 15-20 people invited. Thanksgiving karaoke was not out of the question. Our beach house took our family relationship to another level. We were a clan, a group, and with eight out of ten of us being girls, and close in age, the summers were filled with gangs of people and exciting adventures.
I have never seen two people more in love than Karen and Richie. I used to say Richie is a saint. When Richie and Karen first got together, the situation was not what my father would have wanted but he soon learned that Richie would be the type of person who every father would happily wish for his daughter to marry. The love they shared for their family, friends, children and grandchildren is unparalleled.
Karen was happiest on the beach and in her gardens. I will miss the pings on my phone when she would send me thousands of pictures she would take of her grandchildren. They were her heart, soul, and muse. Wrestling and football also consumed Karen’s life. Countless years attending matches and games brought immense pleasure to her. It was part of her fabric.
I take comfort knowing that Karen is with those in my family who have passed on and loved her so much. I am sure they are welcoming her with open arms. People she has left behind will miss her terribly but she also left her mark on a family who demonstrates the ability to love greatly. I feel blessed and comforted that we have each other to lean on. I love you.

My sweet dear friend. When I look back on all the years we spent together, 6yrs old meeting, sharing our elementary years, middle school and high school years. Graduating together, loving the discos days. We were attached at the hip. You were my calm, I was your wild. All that Bonnie spoke about, the memories of dancing and singing fill My heart with love and gratitude. Karen was angelic, she had a grace about her that you just wanted to hug. In her presence you felt peace. I’m so happy I got to share life with her.

Of the 50 plus kids that hung around together in the streets of Harvey Cedars since the early 1970s, Karen was always the nicest and kindest amongst us. I always felt that from the very first time we met. It's been great having Karen and Richie over to the shack whenever possible to have a hootnanny or on a rare occasion getting Karen on the sailboat. Even though at times she wasn't feeling that up to it. She was always a good sport.
We miss her.
Love Joan and Mike Kramer

I’m a dear friend of Lynne and Alan Shapiro. I danced with Karen and Richie at the wedding of Lisa and Jordan. I shared time and connection with Karen over mutual medical issues and was sorry we couldn’t connect more in this busy crazy world. I am deeply sorry for the loss of your precious Karen. She was way too young and I can only imagine how much she will be missed.

Karen, We had so many great memories at East together. You were one of my favorite people to work with. I always fought to have you with me in the afternoon each year. It just wasnt the same after you retired. Thank you for taking me under your wing and introducing me to everyone at lunch. Those have been some of the best years of my career sitting at that table laughing with you, Gina, Mike, Bill, and even the Trump thumping cooking teacher we finally ran off. I am so glad you got to spend your days with your grand babies and Richie like you wanted. We love you are East! Godspeed! Teresa Fox
