John Brown

John L. Brown, a beloved father, grandfather and friend, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.  He was born on September 7, 1929, to the parents of George and Gertrude Brown.

John was raised in St. Louis, MO where he attended Summer Hill High School before enlisting in the United States Army, where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.

He married Fannie Jenkins, and together they had three children; John Jr., Gay Lynn and Gail, father to Richard Brown and Stepfather to Billy McGill.  He was a devoted father who consistently sought to provided the best for his family.  His role as a grandfather brought him immense joy as he aspired to leave a legacy of excellence for his grandsons.  He was also a proud uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

Among his personal interests, he enjoyed golf, barbecuing, going to the gym, and spending time with family and friends.  A  dedicated member of Bethany Baptist Church, Mr. Brown served faithfully in the food bank ministry for many years, including at the pervious church location alongside his close friend, Ernest Oglesby.

He was preceded in death by his brothers George, Charles, Paul, sisters Emma, Pauline, son John Jr., son Richard Brown , and stepson Billy McGill.

He is survived by his daughters, Gay Lynn Brown-Juniel (Rolando) and Gail Kelly (Steven) as well as four cherished grandsons; Steven (Louis) Kelly , Jr. (Rebecca), Spencer Kelly, Shane Kelly, and Rolando Juniel,
